Allegany College of Maryland Lady Trojans Softball Achieves Sweeping Victory Over Cecil College Seahawks
CUMBERLAND, Md. - April 10, 2024 - The Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) Lady Trojans softball team delivered an outstanding performance on home turf, securing a resounding sweep victory over the Cecil College Seahawks in a doubleheader clash at the ACM softball field on Willowbrook Road.
Seeking their 10th win of the season to reach .500, the Lady Trojans stormed into action from the outset. Game one witnessed ACM setting the tone early, flipping the script in the bottom of the first inning with an explosive offensive surge. Racking up 5 runs on 5 hits, including a pivotal double by #7 Cathy Cessna, the Lady Trojans swiftly established a commanding 5-1 lead.
The momentum continued to build as ACM extended their advantage in the bottom of the second inning. A string of hits and strategic plays, highlighted by Mackenna Richards' sacrifice fly, Cassidy Drobek and Cathy Cessna's doubles, and Alexia Sullivan's single, propelled ACM to widen the gap. Emma Komatz's crucial walk further contributed to the scoring frenzy.
Things persisted in the later innings, with Richards unleashing a homer to left field in the bottom of the 5th, bolstering ACM's lead and ultimately sealing a convincing 13-4 triumph in game one.
Game two showcased ACM's determination as they dominated, clinching a 17-4 victory. Emma Komatz's stellar performance saw her collect 3 hits across 3 at-bats, while a remarkable nine-run surge in the third inning further solidified ACM's dominance.
Pitcher Cassidy Drobek delivered a standout performance, securing the win for ACM after surrendering only 3 hits and four runs over 4 innings, striking out 6 and exhibiting exceptional control on the mound. Ryanne Martinez's instrumental contributions earned her the save, capping off a stellar team effort.
With a remarkable 19 hits in game two, including Drobek's flawless 4-4 batting display, the Lady Trojans showcased their offensive prowess and defensive resilience, clinching their 10th win of the season and leveling their season record to 10-10.
"It was nice to see the patience and discipline in most parts of both games today," remarked Coach Dodson. "Their dedication, teamwork, were on display, and we look forward to carrying this momentum forward as we prepare to face Frederick away on Saturday, April 13th, for a doubleheader."
