Coach J.R. Perdew

Before coming to ACM, JR spent 29 years with the Chicago White Sox as a pitching coach and Assistant Pitching Coordinator. With the White Sox, he won championships in the 1997 Frontier League, 1998 Appalachian League, 1999 Midwest League, 2003 Carolina League, 2005 South Atlantic League, and the 2005 World Series. He also won 14 division titles, along with 3 division titles in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. JR was named Coach of the Year in professional baseball twice, in 1999 and 2018.

During his professional career, he has coached over 400 pitchers who have played in the Major Leagues and worked with 50 catchers who have played in the MLB.

During his first stint at Allegany College of Maryland, he was the pitching coach for the Trojans from 1989-1997, leading the team to 6 JUCO World Series in 8 years. During that time, he had 17 pitchers sign Division 1 scholarships, 17 Division 2 scholarships, and 11 pitchers sign professional contracts. As a player, JR played at Fort Hill H.S. in Cumberland, MD. He then played for Allegany College of Maryland, going 15-1 in 2 seasons and placing 3rd in the country at the 1984 JUCO World Series, where he won the first game in school history at the World Series. After that, JR received a scholarship to play Division 1 baseball at George Mason University, going 15-5 in 2 seasons and finishing his collegiate career with a 30-6 record.

Before starting his coaching career, JR served in the US Marine Corps, working in the infantry, Mardet USS America, and Anti-Terrorism Teams. JR resides in Short Gap, WV, with his wife and 3 children. His oldest daughter, Marie’, is now playing women’s basketball at Morehead State University after transferring from South Carolina State University.
