CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Allegany College of Maryland Lady Trojans softball team battled Anne Arundel Community College in a competitive home doubleheader Wednesday, earning a
7–4 comeback victory in the opener before falling
8–1 in the second game.
Game 1 – Late Surge Lifts Lady Trojans to 7–4 Win
Anne Arundel struck first, plating two runs in the opening inning and adding another in the third to take a 3–1 lead. Allegany refused to panic, responding in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly from
Raley Nestor and an RBI groundout from
Kayla Hill to even the score.
The Lady Trojans took control in the fifth inning, using consecutive RBI singles from
Nestor and
Alyssa Medina to push the lead to 5–3. Allegany added crucial insurance runs later to seal the victory.
Breean Gay earned the win in the circle, scattering nine hits and allowing three earned runs over six and one-third innings.
Hill entered in relief and secured the save.
Offensively, Allegany totaled
11 hits, led by
Hill, who drove in
four runs.
Medina,
Morgan Weimer,
Gay,
Hill, and
Jaynie Simpkins each collected two hits in the win.
Game 2 – Sixth-Inning Rally Lifts Anne Arundel
The second game remained close early, with Anne Arundel holding a slim advantage before breaking the contest open with a
seven-run sixth inning.
Despite strong pitching from
Hill, who struck out eight over seven innings, defensive miscues in the sixth allowed Anne Arundel to capitalize and extend their lead.
Allegany's lone run came courtesy of
Gay, while
Natalie Melby paced the offense with a pair of hits at the top of the lineup.
Competitive Day at the Yard
The doubleheader featured multiple lead changes, strong individual performances, and quality pitching from both teams as the Lady Trojans continued conference play.
