ACM Falls in Season Opener on the Road Versus Dragons
In a highly anticipated season opener, the Lady Trojans Softball team faced off against the formidable Howard Dragons in a doubleheader that proved to be a challenging start to their campaign. Despite showing tenacity and spirit on the field, the Lady Trojans fell short in both games, with the Dragons emerging victorious in convincing fashion.
In the first game, the Lady Trojans were unable to overcome the dominant pitching of the Dragons' Kat Wisor, ultimately succumbing to an 11-0 defeat. Emily Mallow, despite her efforts, took the loss for the Trojans, while standout performances from players like Emma Komatz, who showcased her prowess with multiple hits and stolen bases, provided moments of excitement amidst the tough competition.
Game two didn't bring the turnaround the Lady Trojans had hoped for, as they faced a relentless Dragons offense that secured a 15-3 win. Cassidy Drobek took over pitching duties for the Trojans after four innings, but despite her efforts, the Dragons proved too formidable. Makenna Richards and Ryanne Martinez shone for ACM, each driving in crucial runs, but it wasn't enough to stem the Dragons' momentum. Morgan Ryan clinched the win for Howard Dragons, leading her team to victory with a stellar performance on the mound.
Despite the losses, Coach Twigg remained optimistic, expressing pride in his team's resilience and ability to adapt to a quick schedule change due to inclement weather. He highlighted the many promising plays that emerged during the games, indicating a strong foundation upon which to build as the season progresses.
Looking ahead, the Lady Trojans are determined to bounce back as they prepare for their upcoming home opener against Anne Arundel on March 6th. With renewed determination and a commitment to improvement, the Trojans aim to turn the lessons learned from their season opener into victories on their home turf.
