Cumberland, Md. — The Allegany College of Maryland Lady Trojans softball team battled Penn State Fayette on Wednesday at Lady Trojans Softball Field, dropping a close opener before earning a hard-fought tie in Game 2.
Game 1: Penn State Fayette 9, Allegany College of Maryland 5
The Lady Trojans fell 9–5 in the opening game despite a strong middle-innings surge.
ACM struck first in the bottom of the first inning when
Jaynie Simpkins doubled to drive in the game's opening run. Penn State Fayette responded in the third to take the lead, but the Lady Trojans flipped the game in the fifth inning with a four-run rally. Simpkins singled home a run, an error brought in another, and
Autumn Medina delivered a clutch two-run double to give ACM the advantage.
Penn State Fayette regained momentum in the sixth inning, scoring the go-ahead runs to secure the victory.
Simpkins and
Izzy Echeverria each recorded two hits, while Simpkins and Medina drove in two runs apiece.
Kayla Hill pitched into the sixth inning for ACM, striking out four batters.
Game 2: Allegany College of Maryland 5, Penn State Fayette 5 (Tie)
The Lady Trojans rebounded in the nightcap, earning a 5–5 tie after rallying late.
Penn State Fayette jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first two innings, but ACM stayed within striking distance. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Trojans surged back to tie the game after
Raley Nestor doubled and
Kayla Hill followed with an RBI single.
Nestor went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run, while Hill also recorded an RBI. ACM showed patience offensively, drawing six walks, with
Alyssa Medina and
Lanie Iski earning two free passes each. The Lady Trojans also played clean defense, committing no errors in the contest.
