HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) Trojans are set to make a historic appearance at the NJCAA Division 1 National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. With a stellar performance throughout the season, the Trojans have secured their spot among the nation's top college basketball teams, ready to showcase their talent on a national stage.

Season Recap

Coach Tommie Reams and the Trojans started into his 11th season with the bitter taste of getting close to last year's National Tournament. The journey to the national tournament has been marked a season full of competitive games, broken records, and most importantly Conference, Regional and District titles. ACM's exceptional record throughout the year speaks volumes about the caliber of talent and dedication within the team. This pace went all the way into their net cutting win at home during the NJCAA Region 20 Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament also propelling a subsequent East District Champion with a berth into the tournament, ACM won in overtime against conference and longtime region foe in Harford Community College. The Trojans led by Coach Reams, along with assistant coaches Shane Scott and John Turner, the Trojans have consistently delivered impressive performances, securing crucial victories against formidable opponents. The breakdown is as follows:
Overall record is 26-7.
Record against Division 1 teams in the regular and post season 7-6 with losses coming from Monroe College twice, Harcum College twice, Baltimore City once and Hagerstown Community College once all in the regular season.
Regular season wins over Baltimore City, Hartford and Hagerstown and then the 2 wins back-to-back in the most recent region 20 Tournament over Monroe College and then Hartford.
Looking at ranked Division 2 opponents, ACM secured victories over Niagara County Community College, Howard Community College and Sullivan County and a ranked Division 3 win over Prince George's Community College.
Total record over Division 2 teams 17-1.
With only two losses at home, ACM was making their case for being prepped for a long run in the post season that is starting tomorrow.

Top Players
At the heart of ACM's success are its standout players who have consistently risen to the occasion and led the team to victory. Among them, names like Tyson Oghene, Lamont Jones, Cam'Ron Brown, and others stand out as key contributors who have played pivotal roles throughout the season. Tyson Oghene, a 6'6" shooting guard from Malmo, Sweden, with his imposing presence and versatile skill set, has been a dominant force from beyond the arc crowning him a new all-time ACM 3-point leader this season and most 3 pointers made in a single season. Oghene, currently 7th in the NJCAA with 103-269 three pointers made in the season, has earned Region 20 Division 1 First Team honors, and currently #11 has played 1,111 minutes this season marking him at 7th in the NJCAA for minutes played. Transfers Jeremiah Mobley, recently Region 20 Tournament MVP, and Lamont Jones, both known for silky-smooth handles and deadly three-point shooting, have been scoring machines for the Trojans, both lighting up the scoreboard with offensive prowess; Jones earning Region 20 Division 1 Honorable Mention Team. Meanwhile, Cam'Ron Brown has showcased his, leadership, athleticism and defensive tenacity, locking down opponents and igniting fast breaks with his speed in transition, and the precision of passing leading to assist after assist. Brown recently acknowledged for NJCAA Region 20 Division 1 First Team honors and rounding out the top three in the NJCAA for assists with a grand total of 228 so far heading into the post season. Brown also has 109 steals on the season placing him second overall in the league and not to be outdone, an ACM Dean's List student athlete.

Opponent: Cowley Community College
In their quest, the Trojans will face off against Cowley College from Arkansas City, KS and an opponent known for its basketball tradition and competitive spirit. The matchup promises to be an electrifying clash of titans, with both teams vying for supremacy on the hardwood. The Tigers are 27-5 on the regular season marking close match ups in the season against host school Hutchinson, and split in the regular season over #1 seed Barton. Cowley College boasts a talented roster of its own, featuring skilled players and a strong coaching staff with Coach Donnie Jackson determined to make their mark in the tournament. Freshman, Jeff Nwankwo leads Cowley College averaging 18.6 points per game, shooting 50% from the field and 37% from 3-point range. Cowley was ranked No. 11 in the final regular season Division I rankings and have been ranked every week since week four, as high as No. 8. With their eyes set on victory, the Trojans will need to bring their A-game and execute their game plan to perfection to overcome the challenge posed by Cowley College being the #24 seed in the tournament facing up against the #9 seed in Cowley.

Historical Context
The last time ACM participated in the National tournament was 2019. This return to the tournament after 4 years further underscores the significance of their achievement and the remarkable journey the team has undertaken to reclaim their spot among the nation's elite college basketball programs. The Trojans were the #23 seed with the likes of Demarcus Demonia and company and seeded up against #10 Eastern Florida ultimately losing by 10 that season in the first round. This will be Coach Reams second trip to the NJCAA Division 1 Tournament in his ACM tenure and has an overall record of 170-141. As the countdown to tip-off begins, anticipation mounts, and excitement reaches a fever pitch. On the hardwood, Coach Reams has seen success in multiple forms. He has helped 40+ student-athletes transfer to the NAIA and NCAA DIII, DII, or DI level, with numerous All-MDJUCO and Region 20 award winners. His teams have been able to achieve multiple national rankings during his tenure.

In 2019, the Trojans won the Region 20 and District III Championships earning them a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchison, KS. Reams was awarded the District III Coach of the year award in 2019 for his efforts. In 2022-2023, Coach Reams guided Men's Basketball to a Region 20 D1 Championship and District berth.
For Allegany College of Maryland and their legion of supporters, the journey to the NJCAA Division 1 National Basketball Tournament represents the culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. Coach Reams mentioned "We have played games this season that our efforts came back into play during later games; we are using game situations from early on to overcome in game situations now and its paying off. That's what every coach wants – to have guys who are growing each time they step on the floor."
