CUMBERLAND, Md. – The Allegany College of Maryland women's soccer team scored twice in the final three minutes to complete a dramatic comeback and defeat WVU Potomac State College, 4-3, Monday afternoon at Trojan Field.
The Trojans struck first when
Allie Knieriem found the back of the net just 5:43 into the contest. Potomac State answered two minutes later on a goal from Carlee Staggs to even the score at 1-1.
Knieriem gave ACM the lead again in the 39th minute, scoring her second goal of the afternoon and sending the Trojans into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
The Catamounts battled back in the second half as Staggs scored in the 71st minute before completing her hat trick in the 83rd minute to put Potomac State ahead 3-2.
Facing defeat late in regulation, the Trojans responded. In the 88th minute,
Norah Patterson converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 3-3. Less than two minutes later,
Nevaeh Bunbasi delivered the game-winner, scoring with just 34 seconds remaining to secure the thrilling victory.
Knieriem led the Trojans offensively with two goals, while Patterson and Bunbasi each added their first goals of the season.
The win improves Allegany to
2-2 overall and gives the Trojans their first conference victory of the season.
