CUMBERLAND, Md. – The Allegany College of Maryland men's soccer team battled throughout a chirpy, chippy contest with WVU Potomac State College on Monday evening at Trojan Field, but the Trojans ultimately fell 4-2 in a match that featured six goals, multiple cautions, and an ejection.
Potomac State struck first in the 19th minute when Dominic Demasi found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Trojans answered less than six minutes later as
Louis Faulhaber finished a scoring opportunity off a pass from
Valentin Niebling to even the score at 1-1. The Catamounts quickly regained the advantage just two minutes later on a goal from Daan Wijers.
As tensions and physical play increased throughout the first half, Potomac State extended its lead to 3-1 in the 44th minute on a goal from Yanniss Djomkam. Allegany responded almost immediately as
Tyler Snyder scored just 59 seconds later, cutting the deficit to 3-2 heading into halftime.
The second half remained highly competitive, with both sides exchanging hard challenges and several cautions. Potomac State added an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Wijers converted a penalty kick to make it 4-2.
The match featured numerous disciplinary actions, including multiple yellow cards for both teams and a first-half ejection for Potomac State's Brady Grubb, highlighting the intensity of the rivalry matchup.
Faulhaber and Snyder each scored their second goals of the season for the Trojans, while Niebling recorded an assist.
