HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Allegany College of Maryland baseball has officially secured its place among the final four teams remaining in the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Baseball Tournament, advancing through both rounds of the play-in stage on Saturday, May 9, at Hagerstown Community College. The Trojans' postseason surge, fueled by explosive offense, clutch pitching, and resilient execution, has set the stage for a high-stakes championship run from May 14–16 at the Frederick Community College Baseball Field.
ACM enters the Final Four riding a three-game winning streak, fresh off two postseason victories that showcased the team's depth, power, and composure under pressure.
Play-In Round I: Trojans Outlast Southern Maryland in 10-Inning Classic
In the opening play-in game, ACM edged No. 6 Southern Maryland, 8–7 in 10 innings, in one of the most dramatic contests of the tournament.
The Trojans jumped out early behind
Duke Psoras, who opened the game with a leadoff home run in the first inning.
Alex Kennell followed with an RBI groundout, and
Christos Tassopoulos added a solo shot later in the frame to give ACM a 3–0 advantage. Psoras struck again in the second with an RBI single, and ACM extended its lead to 6–0 in the third on RBI hits from
Ben Abram and
Trevor Shifflett.
Starting pitcher
Christopher Fagot provided a steady presence on the mound, pitching seven innings and recording eight strikeouts while allowing just three runs. Southern Maryland mounted a late comeback, however, tying the game in the ninth inning with a flurry of offense and forcing extra innings. ACM responded with poise. In the top of the 10th, Shifflett delivered the eventual game-winner with a clutch RBI single, scoring Tassopoulos.
Ivan Sypa shut the door in the bottom half of the inning, striking out two to secure the Trojans' first postseason win.
Play-In Round II: ACM Overpowers Hagerstown to Clinch Final Four Spot
ACM wasted little time carrying its momentum into the second play-in game, rolling past host Hagerstown Community College, 15–6, in a seven-inning contest.
The Trojans erupted offensively, scoring eight runs through the first three innings. Psoras continued his outstanding postseason performance, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a three-run home run.
Frank Diaz delivered a dominant showing in the heart of the lineup, finishing 4-for-5 with five RBIs, while
Manuel Cartagena added a three-run homer of his own.
ACM collected 14 hits and scored in five different innings, consistently responding whenever Hagerstown threatened.
Ivan Sypa earned the win on the mound, while
Keegan Roach provided reliable relief to close out the game and officially send the Trojans to the Final Four.
A Season Forged Through Adversity
The Trojans reached the tournament's final four with a 28–26 overall record and an 18–15 mark in Maryland JUCO play. After a challenging early schedule filled with cancellations and road trips, ACM found its stride through conference play, finishing 16–11 at home and winning several key series down the stretch.
ACM closed the regular season strong, winning six of its final seven games, including sweeps of CCBC Dundalk and Prince George's Community College. That late-season momentum has now translated directly into postseason success.
