The Lady Trojans Softball team (Spring '26) bounced back in a big way on Sunday afternoon, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to secure a 9–6 victory over SUNY Corning in Game 2 of a home doubleheader at Lady Trojans Softball Field. The win came after a challenging opener that saw the Trojans fall 14–2 in Game 1.

Game 2: Trojans Respond With Resilient Win

Natalie Melby powered the Lady Trojans' offense in the nightcap, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate and consistently making hard contact. Melby recorded singles in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, including a two-RBI hit during a decisive fourth-inning surge.

SUNY Corning struck first in the opening frame, capitalizing on early singles to take a 1–0 lead. The Trojans answered in the bottom of the third when Alyssa Medina delivered a game-tying RBI single, knotting the score at two and shifting momentum.

The turning point came in the fourth inning, when the Lady Trojans erupted for five runs on four hits. Melby's two-run single highlighted the rally as ACM surged ahead 7–2 and never relinquished the lead.

In the circle, Breean Gay earned the win, working five innings while allowing four runs on 11 hits. She struck out four and limited damage by pitching out of multiple jams. Autumn Medina closed the door late to secure the save.

Offensively, Medina and Evie Wicks each added multi-hit performances, while the Trojans applied constant pressure on the basepaths, swiping five stolen bases in the win.

SUNY Corning finished with 13 hits, led by a three-hit effort from #11. Ashlyn Courson, Marlee Stanton, Ava Sherman, and #20 each drove in a run for the Red Barons.

Game 1: Early Deficit Proves Costly

In the opener, SUNY Corning jumped out to an early lead and maintained control throughout a 14–2 victory. The Red Barons plated runs in each of the first three innings and added insurance with a two-run home run in the fifth.

Despite the loss, the Lady Trojans showed flashes offensively. Alyssa Medina and Jaynie Simpkins each drove in a run, while Medina, Gay, and Simpkins recorded hits.

Kayla Hill took the loss in the circle, striking out six across four innings while battling control issues against a patient SUNY Corning lineup.

SUNY Corning totaled 12 hits and drew seven walks in Game 1, with Stella White leading the way offensively.

Looking Ahead

The Lady Trojans will look to build on the momentum from Game 2 as they travel to Howard Community College on Wednesday, continuing conference play with confidence and renewed energy.
