Cumberland, Md., - The Allegany College of Maryland soccer teams delivered gritty performances on Saturday, September 27, in a home doubleheader against the College of Southern Maryland Hawks. The women's team battled to a 2–2 draw against the nationally ranked No. 17 Hawks, while the men's team secured a crucial 3–2 victory, marking their most complete effort of the season.
In the women's match, ACM struck early with freshman Ava Sipes netting two first-half goals—one assisted by Adriana Meadors and the other by Emily Wilson. The Trojans held a 2–1 lead deep into the second half before CSM equalized in the 78th minute. Despite being outshot 29–4, ACM's defensive strategy paid off, with goalkeeper Genesis Alvarez making an astounding 19 saves. Head Coach Mo Pratt praised the team's tactical discipline, noting that sacrificing possession to limit CSM's chances required a full-team effort.
"Getting a point from a top-20 team is huge for our standings and even bigger for our program's growth," Pratt said.
The men's team followed with a hard-fought 3–2 win, grabbing three vital points in Region 20 play. Alex Forbes led the scoring with two goals, both assisted by Riley McCutcheon—who also assisted Owen Pratt on the first—and Kyode Smith added the game-winner in the 75th minute off a pass from Jace Patton. ACM outshot CSM 16–10 and controlled the midfield thanks to strong 90-minute performances from Riley, Gavin Clayton, and Owen.
"This was our most complete effort so far," said Pratt. "We're starting to eliminate unforced errors and breakdowns. It's getting there."
The results mark a turning point for both programs. The women now sit at 3–3–2 overall and 2–3–2 in Region 20, while the men improve to 2–5 overall and in the region. With postseason seeding implications on the line, both teams showed resilience and growth against a formidable opponent. Genesis Alvarez continues to impress, with Pratt calling her "the class of Region 20" based on her performances to date.
ACM returns to action today, September 30, on the road against Frederick Community College. The women kick off at 2:00 PM, followed by the men at 4:00 PM at the FCC Soccer Field. Fans can follow the action via livestream and live stats. With momentum building, the Trojans look to carry their competitive edge into another tough Region 20 matchup.
