ACM MBB 2024-2025 Season Preview

Cumberland, MD - 10/31/2024 - The Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) men's basketball team is ready to kick off the 2024-2025 season, building on last year's impressive accomplishments. The Trojans finished last season with a 26-8 record, winning the MDJUCO Conference, Region 20 Championship, and East District Championship. They capped the year with a strong appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Trojans will open the season at the Garrett Classic, where they face Hocking College on November 1 at 3 PM, followed by a matchup against Bryant and Stratton on November 2 at 2 PM. Their first home games will be during the Personal Best Classic on November 8-10, where they will face Niagara CCC, Harford (the team they defeated in both the Region 20 and East District Championships last season), and their local rival, Potomac State.

This season brings a mix of returning talent and fresh faces to the roster, with high expectations for immediate contributions. Leading the returnees are Max Thornton and Justin Turner, who provide stability, experience, and energy. Trell Artis, who was limited last season, is expected to fill a crucial role in the middle of the Trojan defense.

Among the newcomers, Jaylen Brown stands out as a quick and creative playmaker, while Brandon Anderson bolsters the point guard position with his versatility. The forward positions are deep with Louis Couch, Alex Byrd, Caiden Chorpenning, an Allegany High School standout, and Owen Seifarth from Fort Hill High School, all bringing size and athleticism. Couch adds toughness and explosive plays, while Chorpenning, Byrd, and Seifarth provide floor-stretching ability.

On the wings, Andrew Fagans, Sebastian Henson, and Brandon Washington offer offensive and defensive versatility. Their athleticism and ability to guard multiple positions will pose problems for opponents. Edward Johnson and Gabriel Jones round out the roster with their scoring and defensive toughness at the guard position, capable of knocking down shots and disrupting opposing offenses.

Last season, head coach Reams earned NJCAA East District and Maryland JUCO Coach of the Year honors. The program also saw significant player success, with Tyson Oghene named NJCAA DI All-American Honorable Mention and now at DI Canisius, along with Cam'ron and Car'Ron Brown at NCAA DI Coppin State, Lamont Jones at West Virginia Wesleyan, Jerimiah Mobley at Livingstone, and Fidel Mpanzo at Wilmington (DII).

ACM is poised for another successful season as they aim to continue their winning tradition and make another run at the national tournament. Join us all season long for basketball at Bob Kirk Arena as the Trojans gear up for a 30-game schedule, looking to extend their reign as MDJUCO, Region 20, and East District Champions.
