Will Giles is entering his third season as Head Cross Country Coach at Allegany College of Maryland, where he has led a steady resurgence of the program. Since taking over, Giles has grown the roster year over year and helped re-establish cross country as a competitive and respected sport at ACM. With a focus on athlete development, discipline, and team culture, he has cultivated a welcoming environment for runners of all backgrounds.
A Cumberland native, Giles returned home after serving as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at McDaniel College (Division III) in Westminster, MD. While at McDaniel, he played four years of varsity tennis, competing at #1 singles and doubles for three seasons. He earned both his Bachelor’s in Communications and Master’s in Human Resources Management during his time with the Green Terror.
At ACM, Giles combines his coaching experience and leadership background to guide student-athletes not only in competition, but also in their academic and personal growth. He emphasizes year-round training, including strength and conditioning, varied distance running, mental toughness workshops, and consistent goal-setting to build complete endurance athletes.
Currently the Human Resources Benefits Associate at ACM, Giles also remains deeply involved in the local sports scene. He coaches boys’ and girls’ bowling and boys’ tennis at Bishop Walsh High School—his alma mater—and continues to offer private and group tennis instruction in the greater Cumberland area.
A lifelong athlete and coach, Giles is committed to developing ACM’s cross country program into a regionally competitive force while fostering a team culture rooted in hard work, accountability, and pride in representing the college.
