Natalie Melby Named ACM Trojans Outstanding Female Student-Athlete of the Year (2025–2026)

Allegany College of Maryland proudly recognizes Natalie Melby as the 2025–2026 Outstanding Female Student-Athlete of the Year, an honor voted on by the entire athletic administration and staff to celebrate excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and character.
Melby's selection highlights a standout two-year career with ACM Softball, where she established herself as one of the most impactful and consistent players in Region 20 while also maintaining a high level of academic achievement.

A Dominant Presence on the Field

From the moment she stepped onto the field as a freshman, Melby made an immediate impact offensively, putting together one of the most impressive debut seasons in recent program history. She finished her freshman campaign batting an exceptional .462, collecting 55 hits, scoring 46 runs, and driving in 27 RBIs. She added 10 doubles, 2 triples, and a .522 on-base percentage, while going a perfect 21-for-21 in stolen bases, establishing herself as both a dynamic hitter and a threat on the bases.
Her performance earned her Second Team All-Region 20 and Second Team All-Maryland JUCO honors, along with multiple Region 20 Athlete of the Month nominations.

Melby continued her production into her sophomore season, again leading by example at the plate. She batted .389 across 31 starts, totaling 35 hits, 34 runs, and 20 RBIs, while posting a 1.053 OPS and an outstanding .509 on-base percentage. She added 8 doubles, walked 19 times, and was once again perfect on the bases, finishing 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
Her consistency, discipline, and ability to perform in key moments helped earn her Team MVP honors during her sophomore season and positioned her for additional postseason recognition.  a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } Head Softball Coach Rick Twigg spoke to Melby's growth and reliability throughout her career.

"Natalie stepped up big time for us right off the bat in her freshman year and didnt look back. I wish we could have her for two more years."

Consistency, Leadership, and Impact

Beyond her individual accolades, Melby's value extended to every aspect of the game. Whether delivering at the plate, contributing defensively, or leading through her approach and work ethic, she set a standard for her teammates.
Her ability to perform in key moments and maintain consistency throughout the season made her a constant presence in the Trojans' success over the past two years.
Assistant Coach Kayla Dodson emphasized Melby's leadership and influence.

"Nat is the best! I wish we could have 1000 of her."

Academic Excellence

Melby's success was not limited to athletics. She graduated this spring with an Associate's Degree in General Studies, while consistently excelling in the classroom.
She earned NJCAA All-Academic Team honors and was named to the Dean's List every semester during her time at ACM, demonstrating her ability to balance the demands of collegiate athletics and academics at a high level.
Her commitment to academics reflects the values of the Trojan athletic department and the expectations placed on student-athletes to succeed both on and off the field.

Taking the Next Step

Following her time at ACM, Melby will continue her academic and athletic journey at Towson University, where she will carry forward the experience and foundation built during her time as a Trojan.
Her progression from freshman standout to sophomore leader reflects both her dedication to improvement and the developmental opportunities provided through the junior college pathway.

A Lasting Legacy

The Outstanding Female Student-Athlete of the Year award represents more than statistics—it reflects impact, leadership, and the respect earned from peers, coaches, and administrators.
Melby's career embodies all of those qualities. From early accolades to her MVP senior season, she consistently demonstrated what it means to represent ACM Athletics at the highest level.
As she moves on to Towson, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence, resilience, and leadership that will continue to shape the future of ACM Softball.
