Allegany College of Maryland Cross Country Team Announces 2025 Roster and Season Outlook

Cumberland, MD — The Allegany College of Maryland Cross Country team is lacing up for a promising 2025 season, fueled by returning talent, new recruits, and the leadership of third-year Head Coach Will Giles. After successfully reviving the program in 2024, Giles is focused on building a competitive and cohesive squad ready to make waves in regional meets.

?? Returning Leaders

Two standout runners return to lead the Trojans:

  • Gernard McCormick (Multimedia Technology, La Plata High School) enters his second season with a strong work ethic and a drive to build on last year's success.
  • Emily Smith (Automotive Technology, Frankfort High School) returns after a top-ten regional finish in 2024, bringing experience and quiet leadership to the women's team.

?? New Faces, New Energy

The 2025 roster features exciting new additions:

  • Summer Kreydatus (Multimedia Technology, Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School) brings academic focus and a passion for growth.
  • Malachi Owona (Cybersecurity, Charles Herbert Flowers High School) adds a dynamic running style and infectious positivity.
  • Luke Turner (Computer Science) and Jace Patton, both local students, are entering their first season with the team and bring familiarity with the region's terrain.

Also joining the team is Juan Larios (General Studies, Maryvale High School, Phoenix, AZ), adding depth and diversity to the men's squad.

?? Training & Team Culture

Coach Giles is emphasizing both physical and mental preparation this season. "We learned to rely on one another during practices, meets, and academics," he said. "This year, I'm focused on strength training, mental toughness, and more varied workouts—including off-campus runs and using Willowbrook Woods."

?? 2025 Meet Schedule

  • Sept. 13 – Catamount Classic @ Frankfort High School (Ridgeley, WV)
  • Sept. 20 – Bridgewater XC Invitational @ Bridgewater College (VA)
  • Oct. 4 – Pitt Greensburg Fall Classic (PA)
  • Oct. 11 – Carnegie Mellon XC Invitational @ Youthtowne Course (PA)
  • Oct. 25 – NJCAA Regional Championship @ Youngwood, PA (TBD)

Coach Giles is especially excited for the Catamount Classic, hosted by Potomac State. "Running against Pot State, a regional adversary, will be fun when our paths cross this season."

?? Community Connection

Giles hopes to launch outreach and fundraising initiatives this fall. "These are fine young men and women who will hopefully take lessons learned during their time as Trojans and 'run' into the real world feeling prepared for the future."
