Box Score 2 In an exhilarating return to the court after the winter session break, both the men's and women's basketball teams of Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) secured victories against Frederick Community College on January 15, 2025. The women's team, despite having only six players, showcased remarkable resilience and teamwork. Each athlete contributed to the scoreboard, with Maylee Regan leading the charge with an impressive 16 points, 19 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Liliana Zembower, a standout from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, including a crucial offensive board and putback.
The women's game was a nail-biter, with LeNasia McCants hitting a pivotal three-pointer to give the Trojans a one-point lead with just 41 seconds left. Frederick Community College called a timeout and advanced the ball, leading to Heaven Murray scoring an easy bucket to put Frederick up by one. However, the Trojans had another chance, and in a nearly identical play, Kiara Hill passed to McCants in the corner for a three. Although the shot missed, Zembower was there for the offensive rebound and putback, putting the Trojans back up by one. Frederick's last shot attempt was unsuccessful, and the Trojans secured the win with McCants hitting clutch free throws in the final seconds.
On the men's side, Coach Reams relied on his bench due to multiple injuries, and the team responded with a strong performance. The Trojans built a lead as large as 20 points in the second half, demonstrating excellent teamwork and the impact of new addition Daniel Nwate. Caiden Chorpenning, an Allegany High School alum, contributed 10 points, including two three-pointers, while Brandon Anderson added 9 points with two three-pointers of his own. The men's team showcased their depth and resilience, pulling together to secure a convincing victory.
Both teams now look ahead to their upcoming games, with the men's team set to face regional foe Harford on Wednesday, January 22, and the women's team seeking redemption against Harford after an earlier loss. Additionally, the Lady Trojans won at home against Penn State Fayette on Monday, January 20. These matchups will be crucial as both teams aim to build on their recent successes and continue their strong performances in the new year.
