Head Coach LaRae Allen

The 2024-25 season is the 6th year for LaRae Allen as the head coach of the Allegany College of MD Women's Basketball team. She was a volunteer assistant coach 2018-19. The 2019-20 team was a year Coach Allen halted the program and used that opportunity to rebuild the program. In the midst of doing so, Covid hit the 2020-21 year hard, in which that team only played against 2 teams for the very short season, dealing with canceled programs due to Covid. During 2021-22, Allen was able to coach a full season of basketball. The team had a tough season only winning 1 season game; however, Coach Allen looks to turn this program around and looks forward to a new beginning. For the 2022-23 season, the Lady Trojans went 10-14.

Before coaching, Allen played two years at Allegany College of MD and two years at Eastern Kentucky University.  She earned All- Region recognition as a freshman, averaging 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks, and Second Team NJCAA All- American honors her sophomore year at Allegany, averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks. She was a part of the 2010-11 MD Championship Team and Regional XX champs, placing 6th at the National Tournament, contributing for that year 11 double-doubles and scoring in double figures 25 times, she scored 773 points in 2 years.

While playing at Eastern Kentucky, her junior year she played in all 29 games and started 18 times. She was second on the team for blocks and ranked 12th in the Ohio Valley Conference in blocks per game. Her Senior year, her team made it to the playoffs, played through the tournament, having a tough loss in the Quarter finals of the OVC Women’s Basketball Tournament to end senior year.

Academically, Coach Allen attended and graduated with an Associate’s degree at Allegany College of MD in 2011. She also went for her bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Eastern Kentucky University in 2011-2013.

She enjoys the game of basketball and loves to see players succeed in school and develop as a basketball player. She resides in Cumberland MD, and is currently spending her days with her nephew and watching him grow.
