CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Allegany College of Maryland softball team continued its early-season development during a doubleheader at Howard Community College on Wednesday, falling 17–5 in Game 1 and 10–1 in Game 2. The Trojans now stand at 1–5 overall and will look to respond tomorrow at home.

Game 1 – Howard 17, ACM 5

ACM wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the opener, as Jaynie Simpkins drove in Natalie Melby with an RBI single in the first inning. Melby powered the Trojans' offense throughout the game, delivering a three-run home run in the second inning that also brought home Briannah Lucas and Morgan Weimer, giving ACM an early lead.

The Trojans added another run in the third inning when Weimer drove in Alyssa Medina with a groundout. Lucas contributed a hit at the plate and was active defensively at second base, while Izzy Echeverria recorded a hit at first base. Autumn Medina reached base with a hit and a walk and later pitched in relief.

Defensively, Breean Gay and Evie Wicks handled duties in the outfield and behind the plate, respectively, while Kayla Hill started in the circle and added a hit at the plate. Despite the early momentum, Howard surged in the later innings to pull away.

Game 2 – Howard 10, ACM 1

In the nightcap, ACM continued to battle at the plate, collecting six hits against Howard pitching. The Trojans' lone run came in the third inning when Gay singled to center field, scoring Wicks after Lanie Iski and Melby reached base to load the inning.

Melby worked a walk and anchored the infield defensively, while Raley Nestor picked up a hit at second base. Weimer added another hit from the left side, and Hill contributed offensively while serving as the designated player. Kelly Mercedes entered the game in the outfield, adding defensive depth late.

Gay made the start in the circle for ACM, pitching into the fifth inning and striking out four. Wicks handled catching responsibilities cleanly throughout the contest, and Medina continued her work at third base as the Trojans fought to close the gap.

Up Next

The Trojans return home to Kiwanis Wallace Park tomorrow to host Mercer County Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. ACM will look to build on individual performances and team growth as conference play approaches.
