BASEBALL RECAP: ACM Splits Doubleheader at Rowan College South Jersey–Gloucester
Chester, Va. — February 21, 2026 Allegany College of Maryland opened its 2026 season with a competitive doubleheader against Rowan College South Jersey–Gloucester, taking Game 1 in a strong offensive showing before falling in Game 2 despite a late surge.
GAME 1 — Allegany College of Maryland 8, RCSJ–Gloucester 5
The Trojans started their season on a high note, using timely hitting and a late offensive burst to secure an 8–5 victory in the opener.
ACM struck early with single runs in the 1st, 4th, and 5th innings before breaking the game open with a five-run ninth inning. The Trojans tallied 13 hits, highlighted by a standout performance from Duke Psoras, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a home run—his second of the season. Manuel Cartagena added three hits, including a double and a sacrifice fly, driving in two.
Theo Kanegae also delivered a big swing with a solo home run as part of his two-hit day.
On the mound, Cayden Robinson earned the win, throwing four innings and allowing just two runs while keeping the Roadrunners off balance. Starter Keegan Roach worked the first four innings, giving up only one run, and the bullpen combination of Ian Guevara and Hiroto Kimura bridged the middle frames.
Defensively, ACM played a clean game with zero errors, helping secure the season-opening victory.
GAME 2 — RCSJ–Gloucester 11, Allegany College of Maryland 6
Game 2 saw the Roadrunners respond with early offense, scoring nine runs across the first two innings to build a lead ACM couldn't fully erase.
Despite the early deficit, the Trojans showed resilience with a six-run sixth inning, sparked by aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. Alex Kennell delivered a two-RBI single, while Arturo Garcia-Tunon, Jaden Wilson, and Ryan Hines each drove in runs to fuel the comeback push.
ACM stole four bases in the game, showcasing their speed and pressure on the basepaths.
On the mound, Ivan Sypa took the loss after a tough first inning, while Landyn Ansel, Kenny Manresa, Jake Cooper, Caden Long, and Christopher Fagot combined for 5.1 innings of steady relief, allowing just two earned runs the rest of the way.
RCSJ–Gloucester's offense was powered by N. Slogik, who homered and drove in five, and N. Izzo, who added a home run and two RBI.
