La Plata, MD — The Allegany College of Maryland volleyball team faced two formidable opponents on Saturday, falling in straight sets to both Montgomery College and the College of Southern Maryland in a competitive doubleheader at the CSM Gymnasium.
Match 1: Montgomery 3, Allegany 0
Despite a strong start, Allegany (4–2, 2–1) couldn't overcome Montgomery's consistent attack, dropping the match 25–20, 25–16, 25–13. Montgomery (13–3, 7–0) showcased their depth and efficiency, hitting .263 as a team and outscoring Allegany 55–29 in total points.
Ryan Whitehead led Allegany with 7 kills, while Nailevid Lorenzo-Lopez added 6 and Addison Miller chipped in 5. Makenna Conway paced the offense with 18 assists and contributed 8 digs. Lorenzo-Lopez also led the team in digs with 10, while Kailyn McCoy added 8.
Montgomery's balanced attack featured standout performances from Hillary Malik (7 kills), Sofiia Mateshuk (6 kills), and Alaryss Medina (5 aces, 17 digs). The Raptors controlled the net and the tempo, limiting Allegany to a .076 hitting percentage across the match.
Match 2: Southern Maryland 3, Allegany 0
In their second match of the day, Allegany (4–3, 2–2) showed grit but fell to Southern Maryland (8–7, 5–1) by scores of 25–22, 25–24, and 25–16. The Hawks used a powerful front line and timely serving to edge out the Trojans in a tightly contested second set.
Whitehead again led the way with 8 kills, followed by Miller (6) and Lorenzo-Lopez (5). Conway dished out 19 assists, and McCoy anchored the defense with a match-high 19 digs. Whitehead and Conway added 15 and 14 digs respectively.
Southern Maryland's Lelia Iafeta dominated with 18 kills, while Deanna Kalkbrenner added 13. Setter Amelie Lancioni ran the offense with 22 assists and contributed 12 digs. Ana Salamanca led all players with 22 digs.
Despite the losses, Allegany showed resilience and defensive strength, totaling 63 digs in the second match and committing zero receiving errors. The team will look to regroup and build on the experience as they prepare for their next conference matchup.
