KEYSER, W.Va. — Allegany College of Maryland survived a furious second-half rally from WVU Potomac State College to earn a hard-fought 95–92 road victory Monday night at Lough Gymnasium.
The Trojans (6–4, 3–0 MD JUCO) came out firing, shooting an impressive 64.5% from the field in the first half and building a 14-point lead behind a balanced offensive attack. Allegany led 53–39 at the break, fueled by hot perimeter shooting and dominance on the glass.
But the Catamounts (7–4, 1–2) refused to go quietly. Potomac State stormed back with a 53-point second half, cutting the deficit to single digits behind the sharp shooting of RJ Greene (20 points, 4 threes) and Colby Margenau (21 points). The Catamounts even briefly grabbed the lead early in the second half before Allegany regained control.
The difference-maker? Darrien Ponder. The sophomore guard delivered a game-high 29 points, knocking down five triples and grabbing eight rebounds in a dominant performance. Ponder was clutch down the stretch, scoring key baskets to keep Allegany ahead as Potomac State threatened late.
He wasn't alone. Jaylen Brown added 21 points and seven assists, while Dorell Little controlled the paint with 21 points and 15 rebounds, recording a double-double that proved vital in the rebounding battle (Allegany 36–30).
Allegany shot 55.4% from the field and 44% from three, while Potomac State finished at 42.9% overall. The Trojans' efficiency and composure at the free-throw line (12-of-16) helped seal the win despite being outscored in second-chance points (22–10).
The victory keeps Allegany unbeaten in conference play and extends their winning streak to three games. They'll look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue to climb the MD JUCO standings.
