ACM WBB Season Preview 2024-2025

ACM WBB 2024-2025 Season Preview

Cumberland, MD - 10/31/2024 - The Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) women's basketball team is ready to embark on new competition in the 2024-2025 season. The Trojans finished last season with a 9-16 record, losing in the Region 20/15 Final against Monroe College. This year, they are looking to bounce back with some grit.

The Trojans will open the season at the Garrett Classic, where they face Hocking College on November 1 at 1 PM, followed by a matchup against Bryant and Stratton on November 2 at 12 PM. Their first home games will be during the Personal Best Classic on November 8-10, where they will face Niagara CCC, Harford (whom they last beat 65-34 to play in the Region 20 Final game in March), and their local rival, Potomac State College Catamounts.

This season's roster will feature 8 new faces and 4 returners, all looking to make an instant impact on the team's success. Returners Saniya Brown and Kiara Hill bring experience and confidence, especially when taking shots from behind the arc. Kayijah George (Fort Hill High School) and Mariah Taylor are expected to bring energy and hustle on both offense and defense. George is smooth and can get to the paint with ease, while Taylor, one of the hardest workers, will run through a wall for the team and shows that on the court.

Among the newcomers, Nellie Whetzel (Petersburg High School standout) will be the playmaker, looking to get the ball to her teammates. She is a scorer who can do damage with or without the ball. LeNaisa McCants will add depth to the point guard position with her willingness to share the ball and her ability to knock down outside shots.

On the wings, Talia Henson, Jadda Jones, Zyonna Bumbrey, and Maylee Regan offer offensive and defensive energy and toughness, as well as versatility. Henson and Jones can shoot from the outside and get to the basket quickly. Regan can guard multiple positions and play multiple roles on offense, stretching the floor with her shooting and ball-handling. Bumbrey is a lockdown defender with heart, leaving it all on the court.

In the forward positions, Kaylee Querry and Lilliana Zembower (Fort Hill High School) will bring size and physicality. Querry and Zembower add a presence from the high post to the block. They are both rim runners and rim protectors who can work well with their outside counterparts on the court.

ACM is poised for another season under head coach LaRae Allen, as they aim to continue growing their program and make another run at the Region 20 D1 Tournament. Join us all season long for basketball at Bob Kirk Arena as the Trojans gear up for a 30-game schedule, looking to face new competition and new opponents.
